Benzodiazepine Policy

Benzodiazepines are considered to be a schedule 2 medication according to the Department of Drug Administration (DEA). Due to the complexity of prescribing control medication, we have opted out of the use of benzodiazepines.

Stimulant Medication Policy

Stimulant medications such as Adderall, Concerta, Dexedrine, Focalin are used to manage Attention Deficit Disorders like ADHD or ADD. As a mental health practice, we don’t specialize in the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorders, however, we reserve the right to coordinate care for established patients with a documented history of ADD, ADHD, Narcolepsy, Etc.

Prescription Drug Monitoring

Prescription Drug Monitoring is an electronic database that tracks controlled substances in a state. Due to the rise in Substance Use Disorders in the United States, regulations that govern controlled substances have been severely tightened for the safety of all patients.

As mental health specialists, our providers rely on up-to-date information provided by Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs in various states, as in many it is mandated.

As a practice, we will not assume the responsibility for controlled medications without a documented history of the condition in which the medication was prescribed, a review of the prescription drug monitoring report, and an initial psychiatric examination.

If our provider(s) determine that a different course of action is best suited, they will make this information available. However, if an established patient requires the use of controlled medication, we will require you to sign a controlled substance contract and also follow all our office policies and treatment recommendations regarding the treating condition. These policies are strictly enforced for the safety and health of our patients. There are no exceptions.
